BEYKOZ
A neighborhood in the forest;if you want to go by voyage or by the highway,you can feel to come into another atmospher when you reach to Beykoz.When you find yourself in an amazing green after going far away,you are saying “lets go to Beykoz”.
There are some rumours that Beykoz history is going 2700 years ago.It is not being known that who settled down here first.But,a votive offering place is known in Rome period at Anadolu Kavağı.It is also known that the people who wants to go to Black Sea,cut sucrificial animals for Zeus and Poseidon for voyage in the convenient wind.
Approximately 200 years ago from now,from Black Sea was so afraided of that,to this voyage is not gone without devote a sucrificial to the deities.
There is no doubt that Turks also love Beykoz.Approximately 700 before,after Beykoz was taken over by Turks,also became a dazzle place for them.When to the hunt houses is looked which were built for Ottoman Sultans and queens,it is understood that here became a hunt and entertainment place along the history.
Beykoz is the cooler and sedate place of the Bosphorus.It is an embrace between the Bosphorus and Black Sea.The sounds which is heard from Beykoz’s brand green meadows which got jammed in old times are the child’s cheerful voices that remaining from picnics which was gone with household.Beykoz is hidden witness of the amazing love stories which was told opposite of the blue waters.
Beykoz is historical and culturel wealth from the past today with alot of stuctures like Mecidiye and Hıdiv summer-palace.These are what we told,are the Beykoz’s near past.Then what about before……….The Beykoz’s historical development is being leaned to 700’s years(B.C.).King Amikos gives his own name to this village with the development of the village in a short time which the state there, named Bebrik that Traks founded who come to this district via sea in this date.Amikos was hosting to plenty of culture after Turks and Pers and Abbasies are following.
Very before time of the foundation of Istanbul,Beykoz was added to Ottoman’s Emperor’s Lands by Yıldırım Beyazıt in 1402.After this,its name was changed as Beykoz which first name was Amikoz.
Beykoz which was seperates to residences of Kocaeli Masters,takes the syllable of Bey from these managers,the syllable of Koz from the word in Persuan language which means is village.Beykoz….Master’s Village.
Here,was being used as hunt area by Sultans in that time with its rich forests.It is said that Fatih Sultan Mehmet received the good new that Tokat Castle was conquested.In the place which he received that good new,a hunt pavilion was made like Tokat Castle for this victory’s memory and he gave a name here as “Tokat Bahçesi”(Tokat Garden).Today the place which this pavilion in has been named as “Tokat Köy District”

GEOGRAPHICAL WIEV
Beykoz,is at the west of Kocaeli Peninsula of the part of Çatalca-Kocaeli and has been surrounded with
the Bosphorus from the west,
Riva Brook from the east and northeast,
Black Sea from the North,
Umraniye and Uskudar from the South.
Riva,Küçüksu and Göksu Brooks divided the Bekoz’s rough land which rise to 240 meters from the sea level.
In this district and the near enviroment,the transition climate reign which is a mixture of the mediterranean and Black Sea.The summers arent so rainy like Black Sea even if not being so warm like Mediterrenean.
Beykoz and its enviroment are covered by natural forest,which come into existence from chestnut first,oak,hornbeam,limetree,beech,redtree and nut tree.
THE CONDITION OF POPULATION
To the census which was made in 1990, the neighborhood’s population is 178.438.If we compare with the census which was made in 2000 a population increase is seem like 13.290.To this numbers,the yearly population increase is percent 13.

THE MANAGEMENT CONDITION
The county is consisting of 1 centre,20 villages and 19 towns.The villages’s populations are little except Çavuşbaşı and Elmalı.Çavuşbaşı and Elmalı villages are places which have come into existence later,carries of the Black Sea characteristics.They have been consisting from 6-8 towns.
THE SOCİAL CONDITION
In our neighborhood,there is with having a bad improvement and also house distress 2/3 of the population have been dwelling in shanty houses.The construction condition was very irregular until near ago because of the delays of application of construction condition.The substructure which is missing on a large scale is being tried to be completed.The compatriots who came to Beykoz with local emigration have consisted the big part of the county’s population.As a result of extreme local emigration with the natural plant cover to be destroyed in many places,some settlement places occured.The land’s shape being rough is also one of the reasons of unplanned improvement.Although the ownership of the estate belongs to the goverment generally,because of the estates which in ownership of private being limited and contain big amount of plots,has been changed to settlement places.As old settlement places Centre ,Yalıköy,Paşabahçe,Anatolia Castle and some part of Kanlıca are in the districts which can be kept in private and old house style.
THE CULTUREL CONDITION
The culturel activities in our county are not enough.Because of the cooperate between Beykoz Municipality,Management of Education and some foundations and societies,some theatre and contest activities and folk dances has been made.The deficiencies of the libraries and much purposed saloons,has been preventing the culturel situation to reach to the level which is wanted.
In our county,we have 3 cinema,11 sport club,1 sport saloon,3 football ground,6 carpet ground which 4 for of them belong to people.Beykoz festivals which was started to be made in Beykoz meadow,is an important activity which the culturel activities is exhibited.

The Abraham Paşa grove in Beykoz centre,had been arranged again with the various touristic foundations.The Mihribad Grove Which is in Kanlıca,takes part in the best promenade places of our county with the Bosphorus wiev.
Beykoz is also famous with its historical pavilions.The historical pavilions which are in the private property situation from Anatolia Castle to Yalıköy,have been adding beauty to the Bosphorus wiev.The most important of these pavilions is Hekim Paşa pavilion which is at the Anatolia Castle.
Beykoz,which %60 of it is forest district,is supplying the rest necessity of Istanbul’s folk at weekends.AnadoluKavağı, Poyrazköy, Riva(Çayağazı), Cumhuriyetköy, AliBahadır, Değirmendere, Akbaba, Polonezköy are the promenade places which are most interesting.Tourism substructure and foundations were in sufficent.The tourism purposeful foundations are very insufficent except the hotels and pensions.
Although the Bosphorus being famous with fishing,Beykoz couldn’t be introduced enough in this wievpoint.The fish restaurants in Anadolu Kavağı are the places which foreign tourists demanded who come via voyage or highway.Akbaba Sultan Tomb and small mosque in the Akbaba village,Yuşa Tomb in the Yuşa Hill in Anadolu Kavağı,Iskender Paşa Tomb and Mosque in Kanlıca,Kırklar Baba Tomb in Dereseki Village,Uzun Evliya Tomb in Ortaçeşme are the places which many visitors visit.
There are some trees worth to protect which are in county bound and culture and natural protecting foundation determined.
And some of them;the chestnut tree which is 200 old in Kaymak Donduran,and 200 years old plane tree.
THE TRANSPORTATION
Although Beykoz being convenient to voyage and highway transportation on geographical situation,the coast road being excessive narrow and bended cannot solve the traffic problem.This problem is being tried to solve with the cooperate between highways general management,minister of the Municipality and public foundations.
THE PUBLIC SECURITY
It was declared as a graphic that the fall of the crime proportions which was made in comprison to 2001 in our county.Will go on......
